Conya Doss
Conya Doss’ 9th LP, “Through Rose-Colored Glasses,” explores duality in perception. "For me, the term means perceiving everything positively," Doss explains. “However, it can also mean seeing complexities and imperfections through an optimistic lens, which is often necessary to cope."
The album embodies this duality. The first single, “Not Trading You,” with its smooth midtempo vibes, highlights how the positives in a relationship can outweigh the negatives. Similarly, “Long Haul” (featuring Antione Amalbert on trumpet) demonstrates unconditional love. “It Ain’t Easy” (featuring Eric Roberson) addresses the challenges of relationships, emphasizing that love is worth the effort.
However, seeing only 'Through Rose-Colored Glasses' can be unrealistic. Open communication and transparency are sometimes necessary. This is reflected in the second single, “Wishful Thinking” (featuring B. Golden), a feel-good groove about seeing things as they truly are.
