Kindred the Family Soul
Kindred The Family Soul, comprised of Aja Graydon and Fatin Dantzler, are a duo known for their soulful music and celebration of Black love. Both began their music careers as teenagers, with Fatin producing for Bell Biv Devoe and Aja signing with Delicious Vinyl. They met in 1997 and married in 1998. After Fatin lost his job, the couple decided to perform together, forming Kindred The Family Soul.
They gained recognition through performances at the “Black Lily” showcase, alongside artists like Jazmine Sullivan and Jill Scott. In 2003, they released their debut album Surrender to Love, featuring hits “Far Away” and “Stars,” earning them a Soul Train Award and a BET nomination. They continued their success with albums like In This Life Together (2005), The Arrival (2008), and Love Has No Recession (2011), collaborating with artists like Snoop Dogg.
In 2014, they released A Couple Friends and expanded their creative efforts by producing events in Philadelphia and writing a children’s book. They gained further recognition with a Walmart commercial featuring their family in 2015. Their 2016 album Legacy of Love topped UK Soul charts, and their 2021 release, Auntie & Unc, marked two decades of their partnership.
